Can two ultrarelativistic objects lose almost all their energy to gravitational radiation?

چکیده
In 2007, Pretorius and Khurana [Black hole mergers unstable circular orbits, Classical Quantum Gravity 24, S83 (2007).] did ``speculate that at threshold [at a critical impact parameter], all of the kinetic energy system [two ultrarelativistic black holes] is converted to gravitational waves, which can be an arbitrarily large fraction total energy.'' However, in 2012, Sperhake et al. [Universality, Maximum Radiation Absorption High-Energy Collisions Black Holes with Spin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 041101 (2013).] performed numerical calculations led them contrary conclusion: ``An extrapolation our results limit $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}$ suggests about half center-of-mass emitted radiation, while rest must into rest-mass spin Here I present arguments against this latter conclusion support earlier speculation for sufficiently $\ensuremath{\gamma}$, but small radiated away as waves.

When objects lose their meaning: what happens to their use?
The 8 patients involved in this study were impaired on tests assessing knowledge of objects and on the demonstration of their use. The patients' success in object use was significantly correlated with their knowledge about the objects, providing further evidence that conceptual knowledge plays a key role in object use. Having a recipient present improved performance in the moderately impaired p...
متن کاملAlmost All Functions Require Exponential Energy
One potential method to attain more energy-efficient circuits with the current technology is Near-Threshold Computing, which means using less energy per gate by designing the supply voltages to be closer to the threshold voltage of transistors. However, this energy savings comes at a cost of a greater probability of gate failure, which necessitates that the circuits must be more fault-tolerant,...
متن کاملLecture XV: Gravitational energy and orbital decay by gravitational radiation
The previous discussions have taken place in the context of linearized GR, which is not a fully consistent theory. We will now discuss some aspects of GR in the nonlinear regime, with particular attention to isolated systems. Our eventual goal is to compute the energy loss of a system emitting gravitational waves. We introduced the concepts in the last lecture, and are now ready to proceed to t...
متن کامل(Almost) All Objects Are Universal in Message Passing Systems
This paper shows that all shared atomic object types that can solve consensus among k > 1 processes have the same weakest failure detector in a message passing system with process crash failures. In such a system, object types such as test-and-set, fetch-and-add, and queue, known to have weak synchronization power in a shared memory system are thus, in a precise sense, equivalent to universal t...
متن کاملCan Strong Gravitational Lensing Constrain Dark Energy?
We discuss the ratio of the angular diameter distances from the source to the lens, Dds, and to the observer at present, Ds, for various dark energy models. It is well known that the difference of Dss between the models is apparent and this quantity is used for the analysis of Type Ia supernovae. However we investigate the difference between the ratio of the angular diameter distances for a cos...
